The makers past and present
Beatson is a working Sheffield cutlery manufacturer. From our factory at 33 Snow Lane, generations of makers have supplied carefully made pieces to local, London and international customers.

Sheffield cutlery was never the work of one machine or one material. It grew from specialist knowledge: forming metal, reading patterns, fitting handles, grinding blades and bringing a surface to the right finish.
Beatson has carried these practical skills forward for over a century. Our history is not presented as a museum piece. Presses, tools and makers remain connected to work leaving the factory today.
Making a replacement asks a manufacturer to listen to the original. Proportion, construction and wear all matter. The maker must know which details define the pattern and which variation records hand work or age.
That combination of observation and production knowledge is what we bring to missing silver knives, incomplete canteens, discontinued patterns and custom commissions.
Enquiries are handled from our Sheffield base, close to the people and equipment responsible for making. Factory appointments are available by arrangement.
We welcome private, trade, collector, hospitality and repeat production enquiries. London and international customers have been part of the Beatson story for more than 100 years.
Inside the factory
The value of a tool is not age alone, but the judgement of the person using it.
New work should be described as new work and made to complement the history of the original service.
A pattern name is useful, but the surviving piece is the authority on scale, construction and finish.
Sheffield traditions stay alive when they solve present-day problems and produce objects for real use.
