Searching dealers and auction listings is sensible when a pattern is discontinued, but the right size and condition may never appear. We help clients move from an open-ended search to a practical maker’s assessment of what can be identified, matched or recreated.

Maker-led replacement work
Every project starts with the surviving object and the reason for replacing it. That keeps the work accurate, proportionate and useful.
Pattern names are often reused, changed by retailers or omitted from old invoices. A knife may also differ from fork and spoon because it was produced by a specialist maker for the brand selling the complete service.
Size adds another complication. A correct design in dessert size is not a dinner-knife replacement, so we compare geometry and construction rather than relying on a listing title.
We collect reliable evidence: photographs of the service, close views of decoration, marks and accurate dimensions. A pattern can then be described in manufacturing terms even where its trade name remains uncertain.
We advise whether an existing related pattern, adapted tooling, hand work or new tooling offers the most proportionate route.
Commissioning new work can be worthwhile where a valuable service is unusable for the sake of a few knives. The new piece is designed around the service you own rather than what happens to be for sale.
