Sheffield silver cutlery replacement knives

Sheffield-made should describe where and how a knife is manufactured, not merely a style. Beatson replacement knives are developed and made at our factory at 33 Snow Lane, drawing on the city’s practical traditions of pressing, fitting, grinding and finishing.

Maker-led replacement work

How we approach your commission

Every project starts with the surviving object and the reason for replacing it. That keeps the work accurate, proportionate and useful.

A living Sheffield workshop

Our factory contains tools, references and accumulated judgement needed to turn an existing piece into a manufacturable replacement. Old machinery remains useful where it produces the right form, supported by controlled modern processes and hand finishing.

The work is physical and specific. Patterns are compared, metal is formed, components are fitted and surfaces are finished by people who understand the relationship between decoration and function.

Made for an existing service

Replacement work reverses normal design. Instead of inventing a knife and asking the table to accommodate it, we begin with the service and allow its proportions and character to govern.

This matters for silver-handled knives, where the visual line passes from terminal through handle and bolster into blade. A convincing replacement keeps that line intact.

Sheffield to London and the world

For more than 100 years, our factory has supplied London and international customers as well as clients closer to home. High-resolution photographs now make initial assessment possible before a reference travels.

We welcome private owners, collectors, dealers, retailers and hospitality enquiries. The principle at every scale is to agree reference, specification and finish before making.
